5am.... Running in the rain, just running in the rain, what a glorious feeling, I'm running again.

I met up with Kris Depew at a trailhead just before the Cumberland Farms in Maynard. It was dark and I thought that I got there before him until he came up on my blind side and spooked me. When speaking to Kris yesterday at our respective daughter's travel soccer game, he indicated that he was looking to run 20 miles at a 6:40-6:50 pace for his Sunday long run. No thank you.... I would have to respectively decline. The majority of my miles have fallen around the 8-7:30 average lately and the thought of 20 at sub 7 minutes scared me. (probably because I've never run 20 at sub 7 pace) A couple of hours later Kris texted me to say he was thinking more like 7-7:10 pace.... I was in, but not for the full 20. It ended up being a decent run, but I think the pace would have been more even throughout if we could see better during the early trail miles. We made it back to Kris's house at 12ish miles, I was done and he headed out for 8 more. Kris is entertaining the thought of his first marathon in October and was looking to get a decent effort in. All in all, a fun wet slog. Always good to run with Depew.

Not to read too much into one single workout, but Wow, this is next level stuff here! Keep running wth that dude!

From Derunzo on Sun, Sep 21, 2014 at 07:06:32 from 24.218.179.128

Tom..... next level? C'mon, you and I both know that you could run a 7:08 pace for 12 miles in your sleep. I seem to remember someone running a blistering 10k in the early miles of Boston:)

From Tom K on Sun, Sep 21, 2014 at 10:37:55 from 71.203.20.181

You are horribly mistaken about my capabilities. Caught up in the moment of the biggest race in my life?, sure, maybe. Dropping 6:48 pace for 10 miles of a training run in the dark rain? not now, not ever. That's next level. Just take the flipping compliment!

From Derunzo on Sun, Sep 21, 2014 at 11:36:10 from 24.218.179.128

Ok thanks, but I'll have to do the math to prove you wrong. I don't think there is 10 miles at 6:48 there.

From Derunzo on Sun, Sep 21, 2014 at 11:49:18 from 24.218.179.128

Just looked at that super slow 12k you ran last March. Whatever you say Mr. Tortoise.

Yeah, I need new glasses. But still, you were really quick.

Strong effort! I wouldn't call this a slog. Soggy, yes; sloggy no. There's a difference.

Dang...That's race pace for me! That's...I wanta be like Derunzo running for me! And by the way, who is this Depew person anyway? With that stamina and speed why hasn't he run a marathon yet?

From Matt Schreiber on Mon, Sep 22, 2014 at 20:35:27 from 66.17.102.175

Awesome run Derunzo! Looks like you should hop in a half, too. Your PR isn't going to last long.
