It has been a week now since I first felt pain on the outer-side of my lower shin/front ankle area.

I didn't have a definitive incident which caused the pain, it just started hurting during my run last Friday.  On Saturday afternoon I tried running again, making it 3 or so miles before I had to stop with much more discomfort than the previous day.

Yesterday after work, and after 5 days of no running, I decided to test it out on the soft-cushy track.  It wasn't a good sign that I could feel pain just walking the slight incline up to the track, but I decided to try it out anyway.  I jogged super slow and felt discomfort immediately.... making it a whopping 100yds.  Suck suck sucky suckfest!

I have been on-line doing a little detective work, and I believe it might have something to do with my Anterior Tibial Tendon Sheath?  My symptoms are right on spot with the ones on the internet below:

                     Symptoms include:

  • Pain when you bend your foot and toes up.
  • Swelling and redness over the front of the ankle where the tendon is.
  • If you push your fingers into the tendon you can sometimes feel a creaking when you move the foot up and down.

I have an appointment on Tuesday with my Primary Care and I'm looking to get a referral to the Sports Medicine guru in my area.  I'm obviously bummed to not be running, but this particular go around with injury, I want to cross-train and keep some level of fitness going.  I just went up to the "Workout Room" here @ work and tried the Elliptical.... ouch!  Too much flexing of the foot.  The Stationary Bike felt fine though....  I'm not a stranger to weight training either, so we'll see if I get more ripped than I already am.  Ha ha!
